Cirque du Soleil’s OVO

Jess, Robert and Kristie at The Living Room Theater, rocking the special 3D glasses.

Recently we had the opportunity to work with our friend (and fellow bugdork–he’s a Ph.D. Candidate working on tiger beetles at Portland State University) Robert Richardson to help promote Cirque du Soleil’s new show OVO  in collaboration with The Living Room Theater  in downtown Portland.  The  latest Cirque show has costumes and acrobatics based on the morphology and biology of arthropods, so of course we were up for it.  Umm… when someone asks if you’d like to promote a cool show based on insects by watching a double feature at the hippest movie theater in town you say YES!

After an amazing 3D (seriously – like no 3D you’ve ever experienced!) viewing of Cirque’s Journey of Man and IMAX Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure, we gave an insect workshop and answered any questions about the insects and arthropods seen in the film.

It was really a cool experience!  The folks at The Living Room Theater were awesome and we’d like to thank Cirque du Soleil and Hadley Media for giving us tickets to see OVO this Friday!   Have you seen OVO?  Tell us about it in the comments.

We will be back later this week with our pics from the show!

How cool! Perhaps follow-it-up with Jamie Lee Curtis’ movie on Dirt! You’re my heroes now.. but I still won’t kiss an arthropod.
